Tech jobs hiring now in Australia:

1. Software Engineer

Salary ranges:

$140,000 - $160,000 per year (mid-level)

$160,000 - $180,000 per year (senior)

At the top of our list, software engineers remain in high demand.

The most sought-after skills include JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Node.js.

However, we’ve seen a rising interest in Python and GoLang.

A few clients we’ve worked with have explored using Rust, which has been received very positively by candidates, though people with these skills are still limited.

Salaries vary, with niche and harder-to-find technologies driving up the averages.

2. Site Reliability Engineer

Salary ranges:

$140,000 - $160,000 per year (mid-level)

$160,000 - $190,000 per year (senior)

The ever-evolving landscape of SRE continues to gain momentum.

More and more organisations are adopting SRE practices as they recognise the significant benefits of a robust SRE function.

Skills in SRE are highly sought after, particularly for professionals with a development background who can seamlessly integrate reliability into the software development lifecycle.

3. DevOps Engineer

Salary ranges:

$160,000 - $190,000 per year

DevOps engineers remain pivotal in bridging the gap between development and operations teams.

We've noticed a slight slowdown compared to previous years, which could be attributed to broader market dynamics or the growing influence of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).

However, the demand for DevOps expertise remains strong, presenting ongoing recruitment challenges.

Skills such as Terraform and Kubernetes are highly sought after, with some companies now requiring experience across multiple cloud platforms. These engineers face the ongoing challenge of keeping pace with a rapidly evolving toolkit and technology landscape.

4. Data Engineer

Salary ranges:

$130,000 - $150,000 per year (mid-level)

$150,000 - $170,000 per year (senior)

Data engineers play a crucial role in today's data-driven world, where the volume and complexity of data continue to grow exponentially.

These professionals are the architects behind the scenes, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data infrastructure that enables organisations to collect, store, and process vast amounts of data efficiently.

Snowflake, Redshift, Apache Airflow, Apache Kafka, and Python are consistently among the most sought-after skills in the industry.

5. Data Analyst

Salary ranges:

$110,000 - $130,000 per year (mid-level)

$130,000 - $150,000 per year (senior)

With more companies looking to leverage data for business insights, data analysts are increasingly in demand.

Their ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights makes them essential in today’s business environment.

6. Staff/Principal Engineer

Salary ranges:

$190,000 - $220,000+ per year

While similar to software engineering, the Staff/Principal Engineer role has grown in demand, warranting its own category.

We've noticed a number of organisations moving away from the traditional Solutions Architect role in favour of a Principal Engineer.

This role involves playing a crucial role in architecture while remaining hands-on when needed and leading from a technical perspective.
